Churchers Pro - Am @ Gosport and Stokes

Churchers Pro - Am @ Gosport and Stokes Bay Golf Club (Tuesday 10/6/08)

Gosport and Stokes Bay golf club is situated off the A32 south of Fareham with much of the golf course overlooking the solent. It is a nine hole golf course, measuring 5999yds with a Par of 70.

This was my first visit to Gosport and my first experience of the golf course. Sadly the only positive I was able to take from this day was that the weather was superb throughout and the team were good company. I carded a gross score of 80 (10 over par).

ERIF UK Matchplay Championships

ERIF UK Matchplay Championships @ Romsey G.C (Monday 30/06/08)

This was the third round of the championship. The previous two being played in early may. My opponent for this round was the in-form Jon Barnes (a three time winner of this event) from Sherfield Oaks. My form running into this competition was poor but after signing a golf coach for the first time to keep an eye on my game, I was hoping to turn things around. Unfortunately I didnt start as well as my opponent, a birdie at the first was good enough to put Jon 1up. I quickly snatched one back at the long par 4 2nd. By the time we had completed the front nine I was 6 shots down on Jon. For I while I looked like I was able to clitch a few holes back and make a match of it, but a birdie from Jon on the short Par 4 14th was enough to finish my championship hopes. Jon later went on to win the tournament

Strada Contractors Hampshire Open

Strada Contractors Hampshire Open

Championship @ Rowlands Castle G.C (Tuesday 15/07/08)

Located on the west side of Rowlands Castle village just off the B2149

Rowlands Castle Golf course is a testing flat parkland golf course with a number of tricky dog legs and bunkers. The par 4 13th is a signature hole requiring a good drive to a narrow fairway and a second shot to a two tiered. The 7th, at 522yds is the longest on the course and leads to well gaurded armchair green. It is an 18 hole golf course that measures 6612yds and is a par 72.

Strong winds made this a testing day. Rounds of 75 and 78 put me out of the prizes but feeling like the game is getting there.

Blackmoor Golf Club Pro-Am

Blackmoor Golf Club Pro-Am (Friday 01/08/08)

Blackmoor is one of the best heathland courses around. It measures just over 6100yds, but what it lacks in distance it makes up for in difficulty. A very tight course that requires accuracy all the way round, very tricky, fast greens that can easily catch you out!

This is my home club, so was hoping for a good result.

Difficult conditions once again.

I played steady all the way round and was beginning to feel better about the swing. Put myself in a good position to win the tournament and with nine holes to go I was level par. After seventeen holes I was still level par but unfortunately three putted my last hole to miss out on the title by one shot. Pleased with a second place finish

Patrons of the Hampshire PGA Junior Pro-

Patrons of the Hampshire PGA Junior Pro-

Am Tournament (Wednesday 14/08/08)

This pro-am was different to most pro ams that are played. One pro plays with four junior amateurs over 18 holes. This year it was played at Weybrook Park Golf Club near Basingstoke. It is 6468yds long with a par of 71.

Had a very enjoyable game playing with some of hampshires top junior players. Hit the ball well most of the way round, the score didn't reflect how I played. Finished with a 74 which was enough to finish in a tie for 6th place and pick up a cheque.

Haworth Castings PGA Strokeplay

Haworth Castings PGA Strokeplay

Championship (Wednesday 27/08/08)

This was a 36 hole championship played at South Winchester Golf Club. This course is the longest in hampshire measuring at 7,086 and has a par of 72.

Overcast but very still weather.

The longest course I have played. Had a very good first round that consisted of three birdies and no bogeys. Having no dropped shots in a round was a first for me and I was very pleased to have done so. With a score of 69 at the half way stage I was two shots off the lead.

Unfortunately my run of no bogeys was to end at the second hole of my final round. I ended up shooting a 75, three over par. This left me at level par for the tournament and was enough to become joint champion of the under 30 championship that was played in conjunction with the main event which I also did well in finishing in a tie for fifth place. This was my first professional win

New Forest Golf Club Pro-AM

New Forest Golf Club Pro-AM (Friday 05/09/08)

This is a very picteresque heathland golf course situated just outside of Lyndhurst Town Centre. Natural hazards include the forest ponies. The course measures 5,742yds and has a par of 69.

This was the first time I had played the New Forest Golf Course and found it quite a test. It rained very heavily from  start to finish which made things very tough as the course did not drain particularly well. Lots of putting through puddles! After lots of battling and getting up and down from all over the place I managed to card a 1 over par 70 which left me in a tie for 9th place and ensured that I picked up money. Credit also has to go to my team who battled away to give us a tied second finish.

Strada Contractors Hampshire PGA Trainees

Championship (Monday 29/08/08)

This championship was played at Waterlooville golf club. This is a challenging course with five par 5's all over 500yds and features four ponds with a stream running through the course. The course measures 6602yds and has a par of 72. This was a 36 hole all pro event.

My first round was a case of grinding out a round where I wasn't firing on all cylinders. I finished with a 75 which left me three over par and three shots off the leading score. I figured thast I would need to improve on my morning score by about five shots to stand a chance of winning the title. As it stands that would have been enough to clintch me the title but unfortunately i finished with another 75 which placed me in a tie for 4th. Close but no cigar!

Rowlands Castle Golf Club

Assistants and Registered Trainees Pro-AM

(Thursday 23/10/08)

Rowlands Castle is a testing, tricky parkland golf course that has a number of sharp dog legged holes. The course measures 6,612yds and has a par of 72.

This was the last tournament of the year and was also one of the most important as I had been leading the Hampshire Trainees Order of Merit for 2008 and needed one more good finish.

Conditions were tough once again but the course was in very good condition as it usually is.

I started the round with a very good chip in on the first for birdie which set me up for the rest of the front nine only dropping one shot on the ninth hole. I struggled my way through the next three/four holes, getting up and down for pars at every opportunity. Made a brilliant birdie at the short par 4 16th to take me back to level par for the round. I bogeyed the 17th which is a long par 5 down a hill. Reached the last hole knowing that a birdie wouls almost certainly take the title on a day like this. Hit a brilliant drive straight down the middle leaving myself about a 7 iron into the well gaurded 18th green. Hit my approach shot to within 6ft but sadly missed the birdie chance. Luckily, level par was good enough to be best score for the day and I was happy to have won my second event of the year and the 2008 O.O.M.
