JUNCKERS SPORTS FLOOR CHOSEN FOR DANISH MULTI-PURPOSE HALL

A floor specially designed by the wood flooring manufacturer Junckers has been laid in a brand new multi-purpose sports hall, the Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium (GHG), in Denmark.

The GHG has been designed by BIG Bjarke Ingels Group, an architecture firm with world-renowned Danish architect Bjarke Ingels at the helm. The light and airy space is designed to be fully multi-purpose and suitable for all-round use, although it will be used primarily for sporting activities.

A key focus of the project was sustainability, which is why the space is heated by solar heart, solar cells and geothermal heat. The floor, meanwhile, was specially developed by the leading solid wood flooring manufacturer Junckers working in conjunction with the BIG group. It is a solid UnoBat 45 sports floor in Ash. It has built-in underfloor heating as well as the world’s lowest construction height for high performance sports floors fitted over batten constructions.

As well as suiting the aesthetic and practical requirements of the GHG design project, the Junckers floor was also very quick to install. This enabled the designers to keep building time as well as costs as low as possible.
