CUSTOMISING YOUR HARDWOOD FLOOR

Hardwood floors are often seen as a statement piece for your home – people’s eyes will instantly be drawn towards them. With an ever increasing selection of different types of wood available for your flooring, you can easily find something to suit your specific tastes. Hardwood flooring will add a touch of luxury and classic style to your home, but what about if you want to add a little something extra? Well, luckily there are a few different things you can do to customise your hardwood flooring, helping it to stand out even more.

ADD A FINISH OF WAX OR VARNISH
One of the most popular ways of finishing a hardwood floor has always been to add a layer of wax or varnish to it. There are a variety of different types of wax and varnish you can use on your floor, depending on the type of wood you have and the type of finish you want – some people might prefer a matte finish, while others may want a glossier finish.

ADD A COAT OF PAINT
An easy way to completely change the appearance of your wooden flooring is to give it a coat of paint, especially with such a wide variety of different colours available. This can breathe new life into older flooring and make it look brand new again!

USE PAINT TO ADD A PATTERN
One of the big hardwood flooring trends for 2015 is patterned floors. While some people will paint a pattern across the entire floor, others will simply add a patterned border to their floor. Either way, it’s a great way of customising your floor.

GET A PARQUET FLOOR
You can’t discuss customised hardwood flooring without mentioning parquet flooring. Parquet flooring is made by cutting wood into blocks or tiles and arrange these in whatever geometric pattern you like – herringbone and basket weave are two consistently popular patterns for parquet flooring.
