WHEN TO CHOOSE DARKER WOOD FLOORING

The popular types of wood floor tend to be warm, mid-brown coloured wood species, often with reddish tones. These floors have a lot of character and can add a lot of warmth to a room, but there are other options available too.

Dark-toned wood floors such as those made from Walnut and Jarrah, a more exotic species, are gradually becoming more popular in modern homes and commercial spaces. Darker wood floors add a touch of sophistication and elegance to a room, and they can also add a more formal look. This makes them perfect for spaces such as dining rooms and entrance halls, but they can also be good for:

• Rooms where there is a lot of natural light – with a lot of sunlight coming through the windows of the room, the beautiful, rich tones of a dark wood floor will really come to life.

• Larger rooms – unless the room is carefully designed, darker floors can make a small space look even smaller. However, if you have a large, spacious room with lots of natural light, the full splendour of a darker coloured wood floor can look stunning.
